Expired certificate authority errors

Windows or Mac Netscape 4.x browsers
Steps:

With Netscape 4.x you should have the new root certificates for Thawte, but the old expired certificates may be still in your browser.

To check and delete them in Netscape.
  1. Click on the Security button on your Netscape browser tool bar.
  2. Click on Signers under the Certificates section.
  3. Scroll down to the signer "Thawte Server CA" and click on edit. If you are prompted with two different Thawte certificates check which is expired. Then close this edit window and click on the delete button to delete the expired certificate.
  4. Repeat step 3. for "Thawte Premium Server CA".
  5. If there is only an expired certificate listed, then just delete this certificate and then load the new certificates by clicking on the following links:

    http://www.thawte.com/serverpremium.crt
If you have an older Netscape browser, try going to this link and follow the instructions to update your browsers root certificates.

Windows AOL 4.x browsers
Steps:

In your AOL window.
  1. Click on the "My AOL" menu button
  2. Select "Preferences"
  3. Click on the "WWW" button
  4. In the Internet Option window that appears, click on the "Content" tab.
  5. In the Certificates area, click on the "Authorities..." button.
  6. Scroll to where it lists: Thawte Server CA
    Thawte Premium Server CA
    If there are two listed for each, use the "View Certificate" button to check which one of each is expired. Then with the expired certificate highlighted, use the "Delete" button to remove it.
If there are only the expired certificates listed, then delete them and add the new ones by clicking on the following URLS, http://www.thawte.com/serverbasic.crt

Mac AOL 4.x browsers
Steps:

In your AOL window.
  1. Click on the "My AOL" menu button
  2. Select "Preferences"
  3. Click on the "WWW" button in the left column
  4. Click on the "Advanced settings..." button to the right
  5. Click on the "Security" under Web Browser in the left column
  6. Check the authorities you accept for the following entries,

    Thawte Server CA
    Thawte Premium Server CA

  7. If they do not exist try adding them by clicking on the following links:

    http://www.thawte.com/serverbasic.crt
    http://www.thawte.com/serverpremium.crt

    If this fails contact AOL support and ask them to help you to add these certificate authorities to your AOL browser, or you can switch to using Netscape 4.x or IE 4.x as an alternate web browser.

Windows Internet Explorer (IE) 4.x browsers
Steps: In your IE window.
  1. Click on the "View" menu button
  2. Select "Internet Options..."
  3. In the Internet Options window that appears, click on the "Content" tab.
  4. In the Certificates area, click on the "Authorities..." button.
  5. Scroll to where it lists:

    Thawte Server CA
    Thawte Premium Server CA

    If there are two listed for each, use the "View Certificate" button to check which one of each is expired. Then with the expired certificate highlighted, use the "Delete" button to remove it.
If there are only the expired certificates listed, then delete them and add the new ones by clicking on the following URLS,

http://www.thawte.com/serverpremium.crt

Mac Internet Explorer (IE) 4.x browsers
Steps: In your IE window.
  1. Click on the "Preferences" button on the IE toolbar
  2. Under the Web Browser section, click on Security
  3. In the Certificate Authorities box, scroll to the bottom of the list
  4. Select the first two authorities one at a time with the following names. There should be a total of five "ZA Western Cape..." authorities, you should only need to update the first two with this name.

    Verify each is valid to the year 2020 by highlighting them and clicking on the "View" button. Delete any that are expired by clicking on the "Delete" button.
If there are only the expired certificates listed, then delete them and add the new ones by clicking on the following URLS,

http://www.thawte.com/serverpremium.crt
